We accept applications online only. Your application is placed in the waiting pool once the application fee has been processed. The application fee went in effect October 1, 2006. If your child was placed in the waiting pool before this time, there was no application fee required. There is no need to submit multiple applications for the same child for the same year. You may apply for a place at Willie Price at anytime after the birth of a child.
To be students at Willie Price in our 3K program, a child must have turned 3 by September 1 of the year of enrollment. The Mississippi Health Department prohibits us from making exceptions to this policy. Moreover, our experience tells us that it is not until age three that most children are able to adapt to the structure and socialization of the school day.
Our admissions process depends on the use of a waiting pool rather than a waiting list. Length of time in the waiting pool is not a factor in the admission process. We strive for a diverse classroom experience. When determining admission selection we take into account gender balance, racial balance, economic balance and University affiliation in determining the make-up of our classes.
Admission Selection is determined by the following formula:
University Affiliation: (ie: Children of Faculty, Staff, and Students): 75%
Non-University: 25%
Out of that total we will strive to have a total of only 10% half-day children.
Current Willie Price students get the benefit of priority registration for future enrollments. For example, our current 3K class will be the first students offered places in our 4K program. As a result, we will have only a few spots open for outside applicants to gain admission to 4K program.
The only other applicants who have the benefit of priority registration are the siblings of current Willie Price students enrolled for the following year. While we would like to extend priority registration to the siblings of Willie Price alumni, the demand for our program prohibits this practice.
Being a priority registrant does not guarantee your child’s place at Willie Price. In order to guarantee that place, you must fill out the intent form, send it back by the deadline and submit your deposit. Otherwise, your child’s place in the next class will be given to the next child in the waiting pool. A non-response is considered a decline of interest in your child’s attendance for the following year.
Once we have made our admissions decisions, we send an Intent Form to each accepted student. This form must be returned to the school along with a current Immunization Form 121 and a deposit/supply fee. Failure to return the Intent Form, the 121 and the deposit/supply fee by the designated deadline will result in the forfeiture of your child’s place at Willie Price.
Each year, we are able to offer a limited number of full and partial scholarships. There is no guarantee of scholarship award at the time of intent form fee submission. Please note that intent form fee is non-refundable regardless of grant of scholarship. Your child must be admitted into WPUNS before you may apply for a scholarship. You may request a scholarship form from us at the time you submit your Intent Form. Our scholarship applications are due by March 1.
We offer a summer enrichment program called Camp Willie Price. Current Willie Price students get the privilege of priority registration for this program. The program is so popular that we are typically unable to accept any student not currently registered at Willie Price. Generally, we do not have as many spaces for Camp Willie Price as we have during the school year. Camp Willie Price spaces are offered on a “first come, first served” basis to our enrolled students. We send out registration materials for Camp Willie Price after we receive your Intent Form, 121 Form, and deposit for the next school year.
