Financial Aid Information

In addition to alternative loans, general office scholarships, Pell grants, and grants from the government just for Study Abroad programs, Study Abroad at Ole Miss has also seen students receive competitive aid from other endowments. The Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship Program ($1,000-$5,000 per student) and the David L. Boren Scholarship ($23,000 per student) are other scholarships for which students are eligible.

Study Abroad Scholarships

Study Abroad Office Scholarship

All UM students applying to a UM-approved Study Abroad program are invited to apply for the Study Abroad Office Scholarship. Awards vary from $500 to full tuition and are issued to students studying in any term.

To be eligible for the Study Abroad Office Scholarship students must be a degree-seeking UM student, have a current FAFSA on file in the Financial Aid Office, and have not previously received the scholarship. To apply students must complete the Study Abroad Office Scholarship Application. The Study Abroad Office Scholarship deadline for Winter and Spring is October 21. No applications will be considered after this time.

The Rose Bui Memorial Scholarship for Study Abroad

Rose Bui was a Croft Institute for International Studies and Honors College student at Ole Miss from 2001-04. In her short tenure at the university she was a leader both on campus and nationally. She received the David L. Boren Scholarship to study abroad in 2004. It was during her semester abroad in China that she was diagnosed with lymphoma. She returned to the University to complete her studies and receive treatment. In the Spring 2005 semester she was inducted into Phi Beta Kappa and named to Who’s Who and the University’s Hall of Fame. She died in June 2005.

The Rose Bui Memorial Scholarship for Study Abroad was created to honor Rose’s commitment to international education and her role as a conscious global citizen. The scholarship is open to students studying through a UM program in Asia. Applicants must fill out a Study Abroad Office Scholarship Application and turn in a completed UM application for study abroad in order to be considered. Students must also submit a personal statement about how study in Asia will be a path to fulfilling personal, academic, and career goals. Award recipients will be selected based on their academic merit and essay and will receive $1000 for semester study or $500 for short-term study.

Airfare Scholarship for Semester Exchanges

The Study Abroad Office offers a scholarship for students who apply to and are accepted by the exchange partner universities listed below. Awards of up to $1,000 to be used toward airfare are available. Applicants must fill out a Study Abroad Office Scholarship Application and turn in a completed UM application for study abroad in order to be considered. Scholarships will be applied to airfare purchased through TravelLeaders as coordinated by your Study Abroad Advisor. Awards are available for study at the following universities:

Partner scholarships

Ole Miss’ partnership with some study abroad providers brings with it financial aid for students who study on whose programs. Some of those partners are:

ISEP New York Community Trust-Annette Kade Scholarship

The International Student Exchange Program (ISEP) offer the Annette Kade Scholarship to students who apply for and are accepted to semester or year-long programs through ISEP in Germany or France. Grants will be awarded to students with a geniune interest in study abroad who do not have sufficient financial resources. Two levels of scholarship are available: 2 Top-Up Scholarships worth $2,000 and 6 Travel and Incidental Scholarships worth $1,000. Deadline is November 2. CIEE

The Council on International Educational Exchange (CIEE) awards scholarships and grants for students studying on a CIEE program.  The awards vary, and selection is independent of the CIEE application process.  Applicants must have complete UM and CIEE applications to be considered for the scholarships. IUSI
Students who apply to study abroad on the Mexican Studies program in Queretaro Mexico are eligible to receive a need-based scholarship of up to $1500 for a semester abroad. The scholarship is designed to bridge the gap for students whose financial aid is insufficient to cover the cost of participating in the program. Minimum requirements are a 3.0 GPA, B average in all Spanish classes and a commitment to off-campus service once the student returns to the University of Mississippi. To qualify for this award students must turn in a Study Abroad Office Scholarship Application as well as an additional IUSI scholarship application that can be picked up in the Study Abroad Office. The Study Abroad Office Scholarship deadline for Winter and Spring is October 22. No applications will be considered after this time.
