Wisdom from the Wiki

Though a small nation, Jamaica is rich in culture, and has a strong global presence. The musical genres reggae, ska, mento, rocksteady, dub, and, more recently, dancehall and ragga all originated in the island's vibrant popular urban recording industry. Jamaica also played an important role in the development of punk rock, through reggae and ska. Reggae has also influenced American rap music, as they both share their roots as rhythmic, African styles of music. Some rappers, such as the Notorious B.I.G., were of Jamaican descent. Internationally known reggae musician Bob Marley was born in Jamaica and is very respected there. MORE

UM SHORT-TERM PROGRAMS

Through our short-term programs you can spend summer or winter abroad. We offer programs at long as 6 weeks and as short as 2. You can earn 3, 6, or 9 hours in many business, liberal arts, and applied sciences courses.

The advantages of a Faculty-Led Program are that you can take 3 hours of credit in 3 weeks or 6 hours in 4 weeks while visiting a new country. Because courses are offered during winter and summer terms, you won’t miss any semester requirements – plus, spending time with a professor abroad may help you garner a good recommendation for graduate school or a job.  Wintersession courses will be posted in September.

We also offer short-term programs through our partners listed above.
