Wisdom from the Wiki

The origin of the term Italy (It: Italia), from Latin Italia, is uncertain. According to one of the more common explanations, the term was borrowed through Greek, from Oscan Víteliú, meaning "land of young cattle" (cf. Lat vitulus "calf", Umb vitlo "calf") and named for the god of cattle, Mars. The bull was a symbol of the southern Italian tribes and is often depicted goring the Roman wolf as a defiant symbol of free Italy during the Samnite Wars. MORE

UM AFFILIATE PROGRAMS IN ITALY

The University of Mississippi has approved affiliate programs in which students may participate. These programs allow students to study at sites which may not be available through exchanges. Some also offer unique programs that are tailored to particular academic or career interests. Ole Miss students who study on approved programs remain enrolled as University of Mississippi students while abroad and receive UM credit. They are billed through their University of Mississippi Bursar Account, though the program price is not set at the cost of UM tuition. The cost of an affiliate program usually runs between $11,000 and $16,000 for a semester. Federal and state aid, as well as some University of Mississippi scholarships, can help defray this cost.

The following program has been chosen specifically because it falls in line with the academic requirements of UM students. Because of our close relationship with the staff of this organization, we prefer its programs in particular locations or for particular majors.

UM SHORT-TERM PROGRAMS

Through our short-term programs you can spend summer or winter abroad. We offer programs at long as 6 weeks and as short as 2. You can earn 3, 6, or 9 hours in many business, liberal arts, and applied sciences courses.

The advantages of a Faculty-Led Program are that you can take 3 hours of credit in 3 weeks or 6 hours in 4 weeks while visiting a new country. Because courses are offered during winter and summer terms, you won’t miss any semester requirements – plus, spending time with a professor abroad may help you garner a good recommendation for graduate school or a job.  Wintersession courses will be posted in September.

We also offer short-term programs through our partners listed above.
