What is the Summer College for High School
Students @ Ole Miss?

For the past 30 years, the University of Mississippi has been bringing academically gifted high school juniors and some sophomores (rising juniors and seniors) to its beautiful campus for a unique summer experience.

  • Students get a head start on their college careers by taking coursework that allows them to earn between 3 and 7 hours of college credit transferable to any accredited college or university (options available from a variety of subject areas; number of courses and credit hours depends on the Program/Institute selected).
  • All SCHS courses are taught by UM faculty or staff.
  • In most cases Summer College students are enrolled in courses alongside Ole Miss freshmen and sophomores.
  • Students participate in SCHS 101 Exploring Sessions, a non-credit course designed to help them explore academic and career interests as well as to learn what to expect in the college selection process. SCHS 101 also offers tips on the college admission process, financial aid, studying abroad, college athletics, student life, etc.
  • By living in an Ole Miss residence hall and eating at one of the campus dining areas, Summer College students experience what day-to-day life on campus is like.
  • Summer College students even have the opportunity to participate in university intramural activities as well as our own SCHS intramural league!
  • The Summer College experience helps participating students build long-lasting relationships with peers in the program.
